CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The Youth Orchestra Foundation of Buffalo Inc. (GBYO) is accepting candidates for the position of the Prima Strings Conductor.  Prima Strings is our new string group that will be composed of NYSSMA level 2 and level 3 students. Prima Strings will be more accessible for string students that are at a NYSSMA level 2 and 3 and work as an introduction to orchestra, which will develop a love for music with the hope that it will lead to these students moving up to SO and eventually YO over the years. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to:

Engage youth in the joyful pursuit of musical excellence

  • Have a thorough knowledge and proficiency of violin, viola, cello, and string bass

  • Communicate a clear artistic vision by selecting appropriate programming for 2 concerts per year

  • Nurture a love of music and ensemble playing, and be able to work well with this level and age group

  • Demonstrate effective and efficient rehearsal techniques that emphasize working collaboratively with NYSSMA level 2 and NYSSMA level 3 musicians 

  • Lead Monday night rehearsals from 5:30-6:30 pm (16 rehearsals per season)

  • 3 sample programs for Prima Strings

Position Details:

  • Committee will interview selected candidates on the evening of April 22, 2025   

  • 1 year contracted term beginning the 2025-2026 season with potential for renewal

Compensation 

$2000 per season which includes 16 (1 hour) rehearsals on Mondays at 5:30 pm and 2 concerts (Sunday afternoons).

All finalists will be required to undergo a background check.
